Why attend?
All employers have a duty to check that their employees are legally entitled to work in the UK.

Since the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 came into effect, knowingly employing an illegal worker has been a criminal offence. At the same time a system of civil penalties of up to £10,000 per worker for employers who employ an illegal worker without having obtained a statutory excuse has been introduced.

Establishing a statutory excuse gives employers a defence against conviction and an excuse from payment of a civil penalty if they are found to have employed an illegal migrant worker. A compliant ID check shall be considered to have been conducted where employers can provide copies of the allowable documents for all relevant employees and can prove that the required steps were taken when checking these documents.

But do you know how to establish whether an ID document is counterfeit or genuine?

This focused workshop provides recruitment and HR professionals with:

  • A straightforward yet thorough guide to the procedural requirements in establishing the statutory excuse.
  • The latest technology to automatically detect forged documents and impostors.
  • Expert guidance on how to recognise forged and counterfeit identity documents.

During the day the "how and why" of ID verification will be dealt with in greater depth and attention will be paid to the importance of accurate checks. A key part of the workshop is the Document Verification Training during which you will be taught how to check an identity document. You will receive useful tips and advice about tools which can help you carry out accurate identity checks.
